Nordic States Add $486 Million to NATO-US Weapons Package for Ukraine After Dutch Contribution

Sweden, Norway, and Denmark will jointly contribute around $486 million (five billion Norwegian kroner) to a NATO initiative aimed at supplying US-made weapons to Ukraine, the Norwegian government announced on August 5.
According to the statement, the initiative will ensure rapid delivery of American weapons and equipment to Ukraine, boosting its air defenses with additional Patriot air defense missiles.
“This is an important NATO and US initiative. It helps Ukrainians quickly receive vital military equipment for self-defense and strengthens cooperation between the US and European countries,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Sweden said its share of the package—which includes Patriot missiles, other air defense equipment, and anti-tank munitions—will amount to $275 million.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte thanked the three Scandinavian countries for funding the package.
The Netherlands was the first to announce its participation in the initiative, pledging $545 million.
On July 14, US President Donald Trump told NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that he planned to provide Ukraine with “billions of dollars” worth of weapons to be purchased by NATO, naming Patriot air defense systems among the equipment to be delivered.
At the July 21 Ramstein-format meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal and Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said Ukraine’s most critical need is the procurement of air defense systems and their ammunition.
