President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian forces are maintaining active defensive operations in designated areas of Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod regions.

Following a briefing from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi on April 27, Zelenskyy reported that as of midday, Russian forces had launched nearly 70 assaults on Ukrainian positions.

Fighting remains intense across multiple fronts, particularly in the Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, Lyman, and Kursk directions.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian troops continue to carry out defensive actions not only along the established front lines but also within specific areas inside Russian territory. He emphasized the resilience and professionalism demonstrated by Ukrainian brigades in repelling ongoing Russian offensives.

Particular recognition was given to several units for their performance, including the 3rd Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine and the 59th Separate Assault Brigade of the Unmanned Systems Forces.

Zelenskyy also noted the contributions of the 225th and 425th Separate Assault Regiments, the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade, and the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade.

Zelenskyy underscored that Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity through active resistance. He added that the intensity of hostilities and the operational tempo of Russian forces indicate that current international pressure on Russia remains insufficient to compel an end to the war.

The President further pointed out that nearly 50 days have passed since Ukraine accepted a US proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire on March 11, a proposal that Russia continues to ignore. He called for stronger international efforts to exert pressure on Russia and create new opportunities for meaningful diplomacy.

“Our military continues to defend Ukraine’s positions with determination. A more substantial pressure on Russia is necessary to enable real diplomatic efforts,” Zelenskyy stated.

Earlier, Ukrainian drone operators from the Bombus Group destroyed a Russian assault vehicle — a modified Soviet-era KAvZ-39765 bus — during operations in Kursk region. Russian forces have previously adapted civilian buses and vans, including the KAvZ and UAZ “Bukhanka,” for military use, often adding improvised anti-drone defenses.
