Ukrainian drones are currently isolating Russian-occupied Crimea, and the peninsula could soon effectively become an island, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said in an interview with the PRESSING YouTube channel on June 17.

“In essence, Crimea is being isolated by drones. And in the near future, it looks like Crimea will turn into an island,” Fedorov said.

According to the minister, this could lead to “very unexpected consequences” for Russian forces.

Fedorov did not disclose further details about Ukraine’s plans regarding Crimea.

Robert Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces and known by his call sign “Madyar,” detailed the effort, stating that Ukraine’s drone forces are waging a campaign to cut the supply lines between occupied Crimea and Russia.

The Novorossiya highway, a critical Russian supply route through temporarily occupied southern Ukraine, sits at the center of the effort.

Brovdi reported that strikes had cut its traffic by more than two-thirds over the past month, with total control expected within another month. He likened picking off the exposed vehicles to “shooting partridges in an open field.”

The campaign threatens Russia’s ability to hold and resupply the peninsula it seized in 2014.

Russians are resorting to disguising military vehicles as civilian transport near occupied Henichesk and in Crimea, apparently trying to hide logistics movements from Ukrainian reconnaissance and long-range strike systems.

For example, Russian troops near Henichesk have been repainting military vehicles en masse in blue, white, and red. Vehicles that previously had standard military coloring are now being made to look civilian.

Earlier, Ukrainian forces reportedly carried out a renewed strike on bridges leading to the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula.

He stated that the Chonhar bridge area was again damaged during the attack, while the “Dzhankoi” road checkpoint was fully closed as a result.

According to the occupation authorities, a bridge connecting Henichesk with the Arabat Spit was also damaged in the strike.
