According to local outlet Pepel on May 24, two drones targeted the train in the Lgov district of Russia’s Kursk region. The strike reportedly caused a gas explosion and set at least one railcar on fire. Preliminary information indicated there were no casualties.
Kursk region governor Alexander Khinshtein confirmed the attack and evacuation measures, stating that “a fuel wagon caught fire.” Local authorities temporarily evacuated 76 residents from a nearby settlement due to the risk of additional explosions involving adjacent propane tanks.

Images published by Pepel showed flames and smoke rising from one of the damaged railcars following the strike.
Earlier, Ukrainian unmanned systems units struck a Russian fuel train in the occupied Luhansk region, targeting logistics used to support Russian military operations. According to Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces on March 23, the strike hit fuel tank railcars near Stanytsia Luhanska, causing a large fire.
Ukrainian officials said the operation was conducted by the 1st Separate Center of Unmanned Systems with support from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The train was reportedly transporting fuel and lubricants intended for Russian forces operating near the front line.
