Drones struck the Chonhar Bridge overnight on June 9, damaging a key transport link between occupied parts of Kherson region and Russian-occupied Crimea, according to the Russian-installed head of the occupied region, Vladimir Saldo.

Saldo said the bridge, which is used to transport ammunition and fuel, sustained damage in the attack. Traffic across the crossing has been suspended, while the Dzhankoi road checkpoint has also been closed.

“Specialized services are working at the scene. I ask drivers to use alternative routes through Armyansk and Perekop,” Saldo wrote.

Russian occupation authorities advised motorists to travel via alternative routes connecting Melitopol with Crimea through settlements including Novooleksiivka, Chaplynka, Armyansk, Chkalove, and Askania-Nova.

According to Saldo, Russian air defenses intercepted more than 20 Ukrainian drones approaching the bridge.

The reported attack marks the second strike on the Chonhar Bridge in less than three days. On June 7, Ukrainian forces targeted the crossing using FP-2 attack drones and the newly unveiled domestically produced Behemoth strike drone, in what was reported to be the first combat deployment of the new system against a key Russian logistics corridor linking temporarily occupied Crimea with Russian-controlled areas in southern Ukraine.

According to a statement issued by Ukraine’s 1st Separate Assault Brigade, the operation was conducted by the brigade’s Phalanx Multidomain Operations Center in coordination with the 475th Separate Assault Brigade CODE 9.2. The strike reportedly involved both FP-2 attack drones and the new Behemoth unmanned aircraft.

Russian military bloggers and occupation authorities reported damage to the bridge and disruptions to traffic. Occupation officials said vehicles were rerouted through alternative crossings linking Crimea with occupied areas of mainland Ukraine.

The Chonhar Bridge is part of the R-280 highway, an important logistics corridor extending from Rostov-on-Don through occupied parts of Donetsk region to Crimea. The route has served as a key artery for the transport of Russian troops, military equipment, and supplies between the peninsula and southern frontline sectors.

Recently, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate has also reported that its forces maintain operational fire control over Russia’s "land bridge," which connects occupied Crimea to occupied territories in southern Ukraine.

According to intelligence reports, Ukrainian drone operators successfully targeted military transport and supply infrastructure along the Dzhankoi-Melitopol-Berdiansk-Mariupol route, effectively bottlenecking a critical logistics network utilized by Russian forces.
