Faster Repairs, More Parts: Ukraine Engages Lockheed Martin on F-16s

Ukraine has held a new round of negotiations with US defense contractor Lockheed Martin. They were aimed at enhancing the combat capabilities of its F-16 fighter fleet, according to a statement by Pavlo Palisa, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine and Brigade General.
The discussions centered on securing a reliable supply of spare parts, streamlining aircraft maintenance, and exploring opportunities to support Ukrainian military aviation.

Operating the advanced jets under conditions of extreme combat intensity, Palisa noted that the primary goal of the talks is to jointly accelerate the servicing of Ukraine’s currently active aircraft and significantly expand technical support lines.
Palisa concluded his update by reaffirming the military’s uncompromising stance, quoting the Latin battle mottos “Scuta premite” and “Nunquam retrorsum,” which translate to “Press the shields” and “Never retreat.”

Lockheed Martin has been a pivotal player in equipping Ukraine with advanced defense capabilities throughout the war. In addition to manufacturing critical battlefield systems like HIMARS, ATACMS, and Javelin anti-tank missiles, the US defense giant plays a direct role in sustaining Ukraine’s newly acquired F-16 fighter fleet.
The US Department of Defense previously awarded Lockheed Martin a nearly $26 million contract to provide specialized technical support and tailored operational documentation specifically for Ukraine’s Air Force. Furthermore, the company has engaged in discussions with Ukraine’s state defense conglomerate, Ukroboronprom, to establish localized maintenance, spare parts production, and repair facilities directly on Ukrainian soil, significantly reducing the turnaround time for keeping the jets combat-ready.
