Four Russian Warships Damaged in Mass Ukrainian Strike on Novorossiysk Naval Base

Four Russian warships were damaged overnight on August 12, 2026, after Ukrainian defense forces struck the Novorossiysk naval base in Russia's Krasnodar Krai, according to a statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Warships of the Russian army forces suffered damage of varying degrees: two Project 11356 frigates: “Admiral Makarov” and “Admiral Essen”, a Project 21631 small missile ship “Buyan-M”, and a Project 22160 patrol ship “Vasily Bykov”.

Ukrainian forces also targeted a 30N6E radar system belonging to an S-300 air defense battery, a mobile firing position at pier number two in the port, a oil depot tunnel entrance at the Sheskharis terminal, and infrastructure across piers number three, six, and seven.
"The Novorossiysk naval base is one of the key facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and its main outpost in the Black Sea. The enemy moved a significant portion of its ships here after successful special operations by the Defense Forces, when it lost the ability to safely base them in temporarily occupied Crimea," the Security Service of Ukraine emphasized.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the combined action involved Palianytsia jet-powered drones, Neptune missiles, and naval drones targeting naval positions, air defense, and port facilities.
Local authorities in Krasnodar Krai reported 3 people killed, over 10 injured, and dozens of homes damaged, prompting a state of emergency in Novorossiysk and the temporary closure of 2 grain terminals at the port.
Satellite images reviewed by Radio Svoboda showed burn marks inside the technical zone housing submarine piers at the base. Russian military officials have not confirmed the damage reports, and Radio Free Europe stated it could not independently verify the claims.

The General Staff has acknowledged most operations, stating that Ukrainian forces are "systematically implementing measures aimed at reducing the combat potential of Russian occupation forces, as well as forcing the RF to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine."
Ukrainian forces carried out an overnight strike on a Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, targeting air defense positions, port berths, and other naval infrastructure located more than 300 kilometers from the frontline, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He described the operation as unique, noting that the base served as Russia’s last major naval stronghold in the Black Sea, and confirmed that the strike had been executed using Palianytsia rocket drones, Neptune missiles, and maritime unmanned systems.
