“I Heard Them Dying”: Russian POW Reveals How 18 Fellow Soldiers Were Wiped Out in One Night

A Russian prisoner of war captured by Ukrainian forces has described how 18 soldiers from his unit were killed in a single night, while accusing Russian commanders of failing to provide adequate supplies and support to troops deployed in Ukraine.

According to Ukraine’s 61st Separate Mechanized Steppe Brigade on October 10, the account was shared in a video interview with captured Russian soldier Alexey Sarayev.

“18 of my guys died in one night. I heard them dying,” Sarayev said in the interview, describing the losses suffered by his fellow soldiers.

Sarayev also discussed conditions within the Russian military, including the treatment of personnel by commanders, shortages of essential supplies, and the circumstances that led to his capture by Ukrainian troops.

During the interview, Sarayev expressed regret over his participation in the invasion. “Forgive me. I am very ashamed that I came here,” he said.

The 61st Separate Mechanized Steppe Brigade released the testimony through its official social media channels. The exact location and date of Sarayev’s capture were not specified.

His account provides a firsthand description of reported Russian military losses and supply problems, although the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the 18 soldiers have not been independently verified.
