Russia Attacks Foreign-Flagged Civilian Cargo Ship in Black Sea, Kills Captain

Russian forces launched an overnight attack on a civilian cargo vessel navigating the Black Sea, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration (USPA) reported on September 23.

The attack killed the ship’s captain, the USPA wrote.

The vessel, flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, caught fire following the deliberate strike. The Ukrainian Navy promptly responded to the emergency, successfully evacuating the surviving crew members and extinguishing the blaze.

The deceased captain was confirmed to be a Ukrainian citizen.

The USPA strongly condemned the attack as a continued campaign of deliberate Russian terror against civilian shipping corridors.

“The world must recognize and properly assess Russia’s targeted terror against civilian shipping and the people who keep the sea lanes open,” the USPA stated.

A Russian drone attack on Kyiv recently killed two people and injured twenty-two others, with strikes and falling debris hitting a business center and fuel infrastructure across the capital.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the barrage damaged a four-story business center in the Holosiivskyi district and set fire to two gas stations, while state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed that nearby strikes near the Central Railway Station caused no damage to the terminal itself.
