Russia Launches Morning Drone Attack on Kyiv, Killing One and Injuring Seven

A Russian drone attack on Kyiv on the morning of September 23 killed at least one person and injured seven others, with strikes and falling debris reported across the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

According to Klitschko, one of the injured, who had been hospitalized in serious condition, later died in hospital. Four people remained hospitalized following the attack.
The drone attack was still ongoing at the time of Klitschko’s latest update, with the mayor urging residents to remain in safe locations.
In Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district, a Russian drone fell onto the roof of a non-residential building. Klitschko later clarified that the site was a four-story business center, with emergency services dispatched to the scene.
Monitoring channels reported a strike in the area of Kyiv’s Central Railway Station during the attack. Ukraine’s state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia later clarified that the station itself had not been damaged.
The latest attack also targeted fuel infrastructure in the capital. On September 23, Russian drones also struck two gas stations in different districts of Kyiv.
In the Holosiivskyi district, a Russian drone was initially reported to have struck a gas station. Local media later identified the facility as an Ukrnafta gas station.
In Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, another strike hit transport infrastructure, with preliminary reports indicating that a fire broke out on the roof of a gas station. Local Telegram channels reported that the facility was a UPG gas station on Kharkivske Highway.
The latest strikes followed another daytime Russian attack on Kyiv on September 22, when Russian forces deployed jet-powered Shahed drones. One of the drones directly struck fuel storage tanks in the capital’s northern Obolonskyi district, according to Klitschko.
That attack injured eight people across the city. Three were hospitalized, while five others received medical assistance at the scene or were treated on an outpatient basis.
