Russia Blankets Key Sites in Occupied Crimea With Starlink Jammers, Adviser Warns

Russia has covered nearly all of the strategic facilities in temporarily occupied Crimea with Starlink-jamming electronic warfare systems, Serhii Flash, adviser to the President of Ukraine on the Development of Defense Technologies, warned on November 2.
He added that Russian forces are also using the system more frequently along the front line, and that the number of such systems continues to grow.

Flash laid out the details in a public Facebook post, noting that the system works on the principle of area coverage. One installation protects roughly 25 square kilometers, he explained, and it operates in the 14.0–14.5 GHz frequency range.
Flash recalled that the complex once looked like six trailers parked side by side at a single site. Russian forces are now trying to disguise it, he noted. Its core is prime-focus satellite dishes about one meter in diameter, according to Flash. Any camouflage must leave them an unobstructed view of the zenith, which limits how well they can be hidden.

Flash wrote that aerial reconnaissance colleagues regularly ask him where to look and what to look for. He pointed to truck parking areas as an ideal hiding place, since the system may be mounted on three to six of dozens of vehicles.
He also advised watching for small trailers towed by passenger cars. In this variant, Flash indicated, Russian forces install one antenna instead of two and spread the trailers across the terrain.
Camouflage netting in the rear would draw immediate attention, so Flash considers its use unlikely. The system can instead work under a polycarbonate canopy or plastic film, he added, and he urged spotters to watch for opaque greenhouses.

Electronic warfare has also shaped the way Russia designs its long-range weapons, as Moscow works to make them less vulnerable to Ukrainian countermeasures.
By October, Russia had begun using a new Geran-5 variant, designated K5-K, that navigates by comparing the terrain beneath it with stored imagery rather than relying solely on satellite signals.
The modification also reportedly offers greater range, speed, and operating altitude, though exact figures have not been disclosed. Russia has also deployed the low-cost, ground-launched Filin cruise missile, which has a claimed range of up to 1,200 kilometers and an increasingly Chinese-heavy electronics base.
