Russia Targets UN-Marked Food Warehouse in Dnipro, Destroying Food Aid for 130,000 Ukrainians

A Russian Iskander ballistic missile destroyed critical food supplies at a United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in Dnipro, eliminating humanitarian aid intended for 130,000 people living near the front line.
The strike was carried out on May 25 and was confirmed by the WFP in a statement published on its official Facebook page on the same day.

"At the time of the attack, the facility was storing humanitarian food assistance sufficient to support 130,000 people. Its estimated value was $1.4 million," the WFP stated.
Photos released by the agency showed a punctured warehouse roof still bearing the markings of the UN food agency, with damaged and destroyed pallets of canned goods and other food products visible inside.
Richard Ragan, the WFP's representative in Ukraine, set the strike against a wider pattern of attacks on relief operations across the country.

"Over the past 18 months, WFP has recorded more than 84 incidents affecting its warehouses, transport, aid distribution points, and the assets of local humanitarian partners across Ukraine," Ragan stated.
The agency emphasized that strikes on civilian and humanitarian infrastructure are strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law.
The Iskander-M is a Russian short-range ballistic missile system designed to deliver precision strikes against high-value targets at operational-tactical depth. Its quasi-ballistic flight profile and terminal maneuvering complicate interception by all but the most advanced Western air defense systems delivered to Ukraine.
Russia's targeting of clearly identified UN aid infrastructure has been an escalating pattern in recent weeks. Earlier in May, a vehicle of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, clearly marked with UN insignia, came under FPV drone attack twice in Ukraine's southern Kherson region.
The head of the UN humanitarian office and eight staff members were inside at the time, with Ukrainian officials noting Russian forces could not have failed to recognize the marked humanitarian vehicle.
