Russian Strike Destroys $3.9 Million in UNICEF Aid Supplies Outside Kyiv

An overnight Russian strike on July 19 destroyed a UNICEF humanitarian warehouse in the village of Bilohorodka, located in the Kyiv region, resulting in nearly $3.9 million in damages.

More than 106,000 aid items intended for children and families affected by the war were lost in the fire, including power generators, water supplies and hygiene kits, according to UNICEF on July 20.

The strike was part of a larger barrage on the night of July 19, when Russian forces targeted Kyiv and the surrounding region with dozens of missiles.

Explosions and fires were recorded across five districts of the capital—Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Desnianskyi, and Dniprovskyi—and the Lukyanivska metro station temporarily closed after a blast wave damaged its entrance building.

UNICEF reported that two children were killed and at least 50 injured by Russian attacks over the past week alone. The agency added that June 2026 recorded the highest monthly number of child casualties since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, with seven children killed and 116 injured.

UNICEF issued a statement regarding the strike: "This attack was part of another terrible and sleepless night for children. Air raid alarms and explosions in Kyiv and the region lasted for hours. Attacks on humanitarian warehouses and attacks on mission workers hinder the delivery of vital aid to children and families affected by the war."

"I emphasize once again: attacks on humanitarian facilities and workers of humanitarian missions are a gross violation of international humanitarian law. For every such crime, the aggressor state must bear responsibility," Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets stated.

Overnight on July 19, 2026, Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack primarily targeting Kyiv, firing around 40 ballistic missiles toward the capital within 53 minutes. According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, the assault killed one person and injured at least 15 others in Kyiv, while two additional people suffered injuries in the surrounding Kyiv region.

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted or suppressed 126 of the 166 incoming targets, but strikes and falling debris ignited fires and caused extensive destruction across five districts of the capital, damaging residential apartments, office space, and regional warehouses.
