Russia's Overnight Drone Attack on Sumy Region Kills Four, Including Toddler

A Russian overnight drone attack on the Romny community in Ukraine's Sumy region killed four civilians, including a child under the age of two, and injured three others, according to Sumy Regional Military Administration head Oleh Hryhorov.
Hryhorov initially reported that a Russian attack drone struck a residential building in the private sector, where people were inside at the time of the impact.

“Unfortunately, two civilian women were killed. A man with injuries is receiving the necessary medical assistance,” he said in an earlier update.
In a later statement, Hryhorov clarified that the attack targeted an apartment building, where the strike ignited a large fire.
According to the updated casualty figures, four people were killed, including two women, an elderly man, and a young girl who was not yet two years old.
Three men were also injured in the attack and are receiving medical treatment, according to the regional governor.

The latest attack follows an earlier Russian strike on July 2, when a guided aerial bomb hit a kindergarten in the city of Sumy, damaging the building and injuring two staff members at a preschool that had been hosting summer activities for children.
According to local officials, the timing of the strike prevented casualties among the children, marking another Russian attack on an educational facility located away from military sites.
The kindergarten is located in a residential area of the Sumy community. According to Sumy Regional Military Administration head, the strike caused extensive damage to the preschool building, its playground, and nearby private homes.
Employees were inside the facility when the bomb hit. Two people required medical assistance, while authorities continued to assess the full extent of the casualties.

Overnight on July 2, Russia also carried out a large-scale attack on Kyiv using ballistic missiles and hundreds of strike drones, inflicting extensive damage across the capital.
According to Ukrainian officials, the assault killed 30 people and injured 90 others. Authorities said damage was recorded at 28 sites across the city, with residential buildings and civilian infrastructure sustaining the heaviest destruction.
One of the worst-hit areas was the Darnytskyi district, where a direct strike destroyed the lower six floors of a nine-storey residential building. Heavy damage was also reported in the Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts.
