Sky Sentinel Goes Mobile—Ukraine Mounts AI Anti-Drone Turret on Military Vehicle

Ukrainian forces have revealed a mobile version of the Sky Sentinel robotic anti-aircraft turret, mounting the AI-assisted system on a military vehicle to create a rapidly deployable defense against Shahed-type drones and other low-flying aerial threats.
The 1021st Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Brigade released footage of the system on October 26.

The video shows Sky Sentinel installed on a HAMMER military vehicle, with the robotic gun mount positioned at the rear. Inside the vehicle is an operator station equipped with a monitor and control panel.
Sky Sentinel is a Ukrainian-developed air-defense system built around automated targeting, machine vision, and artificial intelligence.
Using targeting data from radar systems, the turret can automatically acquire and track an aerial target, calculate its speed and flight path, and determine the necessary lead for firing.
Its software can even account for wind conditions, reducing the need for the operator to continuously aim the weapon by hand.
Known configurations of Sky Sentinel use the 12.7mm M2 Browning heavy machine gun. The turret can rotate through 360 degrees and adjust the weapon’s elevation, allowing it to engage aerial targets approaching from different directions.
The system is primarily intended to intercept Shahed-type attack drones and other UAVs. Developers have also said it can engage faster targets traveling at speeds of up to 800 km/h, or roughly 500 mph.
Its engagement range is still limited by the machine gun itself, meaning Sky Sentinel is designed mainly for close-range protection of critical facilities rather than replacing longer-range air-defense systems.

Mounting the turret on a vehicle adds another advantage: mobility. Instead of transporting the system separately and setting it up at a fixed position, crews can move between firing locations quickly as the threat changes.
Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine’s Defense Forces destroyed more than 4,700 aerial targets and neutralized over 48,000 additional tactical-level drones throughout September.
The reported results included the destruction of 24 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 12 Kalibr cruise missiles, eight Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, and eight Zircon missiles. Ukrainian forces also intercepted six Iskander-K cruise missiles and six Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles.
Russian-made Shahed drones accounted for a significant portion of the reported interceptions. Ukrainian forces destroyed 2,722 Shahed-131/136 drones and 1,935 Shahed-238 drones, bringing the combined total to 4,657.
In addition, the military reported destroying 86 S8000 Banderol weapons, 1,009 reconnaissance drones, and 719 Lancet loitering munitions.
