Trump Says Zelenskyy Is Doing “Pretty Well” as Ukraine Holds Its Line Against Russia

US President Donald Trump said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is doing “pretty well” and holding his position against Russia during a conversation with reporters at the White House on a broadcast on June 24.
Trump was asked whether he believes Zelenskyy is currently winning Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“Do you think Zelenskyy is winning right now?” a reporter asked.
Trump did not give a direct answer on whether Ukraine is winning the war, but offered a positive assessment of Zelenskyy’s position.
“Zelenskyy is doing pretty well and holding his own. He’s doing pretty well,” Trump said.
The remark comes as Trump’s rhetoric on Ukraine has recently shown a more positive shift, particularly after the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France. During the summit, Trump and Zelenskyy discussed, among other issues, how to bring Russia to the negotiating table.

The two leaders held several conversations on the sidelines of the G7 summit, which took place from June 15 to 17 in France.
After his talks with Trump, Zelenskyy said the idea of granting Ukraine licenses to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems was received positively by the American side “for the first time.”
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine already has the technical capacity to begin such production, but the process requires approval from the US President.
Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine reportedly secured private backing from the White House for an intensified diplomatic and military campaign aimed at forcing Russia into meaningful peace negotiations.
US President Donald Trump had reportedly told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to act “more boldly” to bring Moscow to the negotiating table, according to a senior Ukrainian official.
