Footage of the strike was published on the brigade’s Telegram channel on April 29.

According to the unit, the target was a radar complex deployed near the settlement of Ukolovo, at the junction of Russia’s Belgorod and Kursk regions.

“The strike targeted the most vulnerable part of the system, rendering further use of the radar impossible,” the brigade wrote.

What is Nebo-M radar system

The Nebo-M radar is a multifunctional mobile radar system designed to detect aerodynamic and ballistic targets at medium and high altitudes, “Achilles” notes.

It can detect aircraft at ranges of up to 500–600 km and ballistic targets at approximately 1,500 km. The system is also capable of identifying low-observable aerial targets at distances of 200–400 km, and smaller targets such as UAVs and cruise missiles at tens to hundreds of kilometers, typically within 50–150 km.

Estimates suggest that a single system of this type can cost up to around $100 million.

This is not the first time Ukrainian forces have targeted Russia’s Nebo-M radar systems as part of efforts to weaken its air defense network.

In a previous operation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a series of precision strikes against Russian military assets across multiple locations, focusing on degrading air defense and radar capabilities.

According to the statement, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian S-400P surface-to-air missile system in the Belgorod region using long-range strike capabilities, which “significantly reduced the area covered by Russian long-range air defense systems in the region.”

In the same area, Ukrainian forces also targeted a Nebo-M radar system. The strike critically impaired its functionality and reduced the operational capacity of a nearby 5N66M “Big Bird” radar station, the General Staff said.
