Ukraine Hunts Down Rare Russian T-90 Tank Hidden Under Camouflage, Video

Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance crews tracked down and destroyed a camouflaged Russian T-90 tank in the Northern Slobozhanshchyna sector, Ukraine’s 21st Separate Mechanized Brigade reported on September 26.
Russian troops had attempted to conceal the tank, but Ukrainian reconnaissance drones detected the vehicle and identified it as a T-90.

Once the brigade realized what it had found, operators decided not to hold back.
“Our fighters spared several drones for such a fine catch,” the brigade said.
Video released by the unit shows a series of strikes hitting the tank before the vehicle catches fire.
The brigade later mocked the loss, saying Russia’s “technological jewel” first “revealed itself from an unexpected angle” before it “shone in a new light.”
The T-90 remains a relatively uncommon target compared with Russia’s much larger T-72 fleet.
Before the full-scale invasion, open-source estimates put Russia’s Ground Forces inventory at roughly 350 T-90A tanks and just 67 of the newer T-90M variant.
By comparison, Russia was believed to operate more than 2,000 T-72 tanks in various configurations.
That meant the entire T-90 family represented only about 14% of Russia’s active Ground Forces tank fleet before February 2022.
The exact number remaining today is considerably harder to assess.
Russia has lost T-90s in combat while simultaneously refurbishing older T-90A vehicles and increasing production of the newer T-90M.
That combination still makes every confirmed T-90 loss more notable than the destruction of Russia’s far more numerous Soviet-era tank types.
Earlier, Russian troops used a tank as an improvised transport vehicle to reach their positions before abandoning the armored vehicle and fleeing on foot, leaving Ukrainian FPV drone operators to destroy it.
