Ukraine Strikes Russian Drone Base in Oryol, Hits Five Launchers and Storage Facilities

Ukrainian forces struck a Russian storage and launch site for attack drones in Russia’s Oryol region, damaging five launchers and several storage facilities, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on September 22.

According to the General Staff, the strike was carried out on September 21 against a facility near the settlement of Tsymbulova, which was used by Russian forces to store, prepare, and launch attack drones.
At least three drone storage facilities were hit, resulting in fires at the site. The strike also damaged a launch area used for jet-powered UAVs, as well as five drone launchers.
The General Staff said Ukrainian forces systematically target facilities used to store, prepare, and launch Russian attack drones as part of efforts to reduce Moscow’s ability to conduct strikes against civilian targets in Ukraine.
The operation follows a series of Ukrainian strikes against other Russian military assets. On September 20 and overnight into September 21, Ukrainian forces targeted a Kasta radar system valued at at least $60 million, as well as a drone command post and an area where Russian troops were concentrated.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported that the radar was struck near Pikuzy in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region. The system was identified as a Kasta-2E2 (39N6), a mobile radar designed to detect low-flying aircraft, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles at ranges of up to 150 kilometers.
Ukrainian strikes have also targeted Russia’s oil infrastructure. A fire broke out at the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery in Russia’s Samara region following an overnight Ukrainian drone attack on September 22, with preliminary analysis suggesting that one of the facility’s processing units was damaged, Russian media outlet ASTRA reported.
Residents of the Samara region reported hearing explosions overnight. After analyzing eyewitness footage, ASTRA identified the Kuibyshev refinery as the apparent target, with footage showing a fire at the facility.
