Ukraine’s STING S Interceptor Destroys Dozen Russian Jet Drones

Ukraine’s new STING S interceptor drone has already destroyed around a dozen Russian Geran-4 jet-powered attack drones and several smaller Geran-5 cruise missiles as the system undergoes active combat testing, Ukrainian drone manufacturer Wild Hornets told Militarnyi on September 21.

Developed from the original STING platform designed to counter Russian drones, the Sting S is a high-speed quadcopter interceptor specifically engineered to engage jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles.
Wild Hornets has not disclosed the interceptor’s technical specifications ahead of the start of mass production. The company noted that the STING S’s final characteristics could still be adjusted in the coming weeks based on the results of its combat deployment.
According to Militarnyi, most of the targets intercepted by the Sting S have been destroyed using Hornet Vision Ctrl, a remote-control technology developed for drone operations.
“We expect this will allow us to quickly scale up the use of the new interceptor once mass production begins and deliveries to combat units start,” Wild Hornets said.
The Sting platform has already demonstrated its capabilities against Russian aerial targets at high altitudes. On August 18, Militarnyi reported that Ukrainian drone operators had set a new altitude record after destroying a Russian UAV with a STING interceptor at more than 7 kilometers above ground.
Wild Hornets told the outlet that the “Klever” crew of the “Hrim” unmanned systems unit within Ukraine’s 27th National Guard Brigade intercepted the Russian drone at an altitude of 7,472 meters.
The interception surpassed previously reported altitude records for Ukrainian interceptor drones. Earlier in August, an operator from the Security Service of Ukraine’s Special Operations Center “A” destroyed a Russian aerial target at an altitude of 6,955 meters, according to Militarnyi.
The development of the Sting S comes as other Ukrainian manufacturers advance interceptor systems designed to counter increasingly fast aerial threats. Also on September 21, Ukrainian defense manufacturer Vluchnyk announced the completion of internal trials of its Zorelit v5 interceptor drone, developed to engage high-speed targets, including jet-powered attack UAVs.
Vluchnyk told Militarnyi that the Zorelit v5 had confirmed its stated performance characteristics during a full cycle of internal testing.
