The Wild Hornets drone manufacturer told the outlet that the “Klever” crew of the “Hrim” unmanned systems unit of Ukraine’s 27th National Guard Brigade intercepted the Russian UAV at an altitude of 7,472 meters.

The interception surpassed previous reported records for Ukrainian interceptor drones. According to Militarnyi, earlier in August, a pilot from the Security Service of Ukraine’s Special Operations Center “A” struck a Russian aerial target at an altitude of 6,955 meters.

Before that, the record belonged to servicemen of Ukraine’s 105th Border Guard Detachment, who destroyed a Russian drone at an altitude of 6,858 meters.

Many of the targets destroyed in high-altitude interceptions are Russian ZALA Z-20 reconnaissance drones. Russian forces have increasingly attempted to operate the UAVs at higher altitudes in an effort to evade Ukrainian air defenses, the outlet reported.

About STING

STING is a lightweight quadcopter interceptor featuring a raised central section that contains its warhead and camera. The drone can take off from any flat surface without a catapult, requires about 15 minutes to prepare for deployment, and has a claimed engagement range of approximately 25 kilometers.

The system can operate with standard FPV equipment, although its developers say it performs more effectively when used with a dedicated ground control station and their Hornet Vision digital video link.

During the first four months of serial production, Ukrainian forces used STING interceptors to destroy more than 1,000 Russian Shahed- and Gerbera-type drones.

Several months earlier, Ukrainian serviceman with the callsign “Hulk,” who holds the title Hero of Ukraine, destroyed two Russian attack drones with a single interceptor during a combat mission, according to footage published by the Presidential Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The brigade said several Russian Shahed-type drones were approaching in groups at different altitudes when Hulk launched a STING interceptor to engage one of the incoming targets.
