Ukrainian Drones Destroy Russian $10 Million Osa Air Defense System in Zaporizhzhia, Video

Ukrainian drone operators destroyed a Russian Osa surface-to-air missile system worth approximately $10 million on the Zaporizhzhia front, Ukraine’s 423rd Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade “Skifski Hryfony ” reported.
The brigade said its drone pilots had located and destroyed the Russian self-propelled air defense system, releasing footage of the operation.

Despite its Soviet-era origins, the Osa remains in use by Russian forces as a short-range air defense system and poses a significant threat to Ukrainian reconnaissance and strike drones, according to the brigade.
The system is capable of engaging aerial targets at altitudes of up to five kilometers and at distances of approximately 10 kilometers. Its relatively compact design also makes it easier to conceal compared with larger air defense systems.
“Unlike other systems, it is compact enough and convenient to conceal. Destroying such air defense systems gives our wings access to the enemy’s rear logistics,” the Ukrainian unit said.
The latest strike marks the third Russian Osa system destroyed by pilots of the 423rd Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade over the past year and a half, according to the unit.
The operation comes amid continued Ukrainian efforts to target Russian air defense assets in the Zaporizhzhia region. On August 2, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a precision strike against Russian military targets in the Russian-occupied part of the region, destroying an S-300 air defense system with long-range strike capabilities, Ukraine’s General Staff reported.
“The elimination of this target significantly reduces the enemy’s long-range strike capabilities and limits its ability to shell the positions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces and civilian infrastructure in the region,” the General Staff stated.
