A Ukrainian FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missile reportedly struck the VNIIR-Progress defense electronics plant in the Russian city of Cheboksary, located in Russia’s Chuvash Republic, on June 10.

The facility is known for producing navigation and antenna systems used in a range of Russian military platforms, including drones, missiles, and guided aerial bombs.

According to Exilenova+, video footage circulating online showed a low-flying missile passing over the city before an explosion was reported at the plant. Images published after the strike appear to show damage to one of the facility’s buildings and a plume of smoke rising above the industrial site.

VNIIR-Progress, located in Russia’s Chuvash Republic roughly 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, manufactures satellite navigation receivers and antenna systems compatible with GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo networks.

According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the enterprise produces Kometa-series navigation modules that are used in Shahed-type attack drones, Iskander-M ballistic missiles, Kalibr cruise missiles, and UMPK guidance kits for aerial bombs.

The plant is part of the ABS Electro industrial group and publicly describes its activities as the development and production of automation systems, electronic components, radio-electronic products, and satellite navigation technologies.

According to Astra’s analysis of available photos and videos, the strike appears to have hit an area near the facility’s main production building. The outlet also noted that protective structures equipped with anti-drone netting had previously been installed around parts of the site.

The VNIIR-Progress facility has previously been targeted by Ukrainian long-range strike operations. In May 2026, Ukraine’s Defense Forces reportedly struck the plant using an FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missile, followed by a second wave of long-range Liutyi drones.

UPD: Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed that the strike on the VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary was carried out by units of the Missile Forces and Artillery of the Ukrainian Ground Forces using FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missiles.

The FP-5 Flamingo is a Ukrainian-developed long-range cruise missile created by private defense company FirePoint. The missile is reported to have a range of up to 3,000 kilometers and is designed for deep strikes against high-value targets inside Russia.
