63,000 Russian Children Successfully Petition Kremlin to Overturn Roblox Platform Ban

Russian authorities are preparing to reverse their ban on the popular gaming platform Roblox following widespread backlash from young users and dropping approval ratings, The Moscow Times reported, citing Russian media.
Russian Ministry of Digital Development announced it has requested law enforcement support to unblock the platform after securing compliance guarantees from the American developer. According to a ministry statement cited by Russian state media, Roblox has agreed to implement a suite of safety measures to protect children from harmful content and inappropriate user behavior.

Under the agreement, which is also supported by state internet censor Roskomnadzor, access for Russian users will be restricted into age-specific categories, namely “Roblox Kids” and “Roblox Select,” The Moscow Times wrote.
Roskomnadzor initially blocked Roblox on December 3, citing allegations of “extremist content,” “LGBT propaganda,” and claims that minors were exposed to online harassment.
According to The Moscow Times, the restriction triggered an unprecedented wave of complaints. Ekaterina Mizulina, head of the Kremlin-aligned Safe Internet League , reported receiving 63,000 letters from children protesting the ban, noting that half of them expressed a desire to leave the country as a result.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also confirmed that the presidential administration was flooded with complaints, acknowledging a substantial volume of appeals from children.

The Moscow Times reports that Russia represents one of Roblox’s largest markets, ranking in the top three globally with approximately 6.8 million unique monthly visits. Before the ban, it was the most downloaded mobile game in the country.
The Roblox ban is part of a wider state campaign against international gaming platforms. In early 2026, digital storefronts and networks including Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Epic Games, and Origin had experienced sudden drops in availability across Russia.
Independent analysts attributed these connection anomalies to the deployment of Technical Measures for Countering Threats (TSPU)—specialized hardware used by Russian state censors to silently filter web traffic and throttle access speeds behind the scenes.
