The European Union is allocating $210 million to expand industrial capacity for producing ammunition and missiles destined for Ukraine, the European Commission said on April 30.
The initiative is designed to strengthen manufacturing capabilities both within EU member states and in Ukraine, with a focus on accelerating the delivery of critical defense supplies.

According to the Commission, the primary goal of the funding is to reduce the time between placing orders and delivering equipment to Ukrainian forces. This will be achieved by streamlining production processes and improving the efficiency of defense logistics chains.
Part of the investment will also be used to develop a more resilient and independent supply base for key components, reducing reliance on external sources.
The total budget for the program stands at $210 million, with individual projects eligible for up to $35 million in funding. This structure is intended to support multiple large-scale initiatives simultaneously within a single framework.
Applications for the funding round will remain open until October 13, 2026. Projects will be evaluated based on their ability to rapidly scale production and ensure a stable, long-term supply.
The program places particular emphasis on the development of joint production facilities and integrated manufacturing lines across participating countries.

In addition to expanding capacity, the initiative supports the integration of new technologies, the testing of advanced control and navigation systems, and the adoption of modular production approaches.
It also encourages the adaptation of heavy industry facilities to meet defense manufacturing needs.
Earlier, reports emerged that the UK Ministry of Defence outlined a revised plan to expand domestic production of energetics and munitions. The initiative could lead to the construction of up to six new facilities across the country.
