Geran-4 Drone Crashes and Explodes Near Road in Moldova

The Defense Ministry said the aerial object entered Moldovan airspace at 8:45 p.m. from the direction of Sersenti in Ukraine’s Vinnytsia region, heading toward the outskirts of Slobozia-Rașcov in the Transnistrian region. It later continued toward Țipova in the Rezina district before disappearing from monitoring systems near Brănești in the Orhei district.
Moldovan authorities temporarily closed airspace in the central part of the country while the object was being tracked. The restrictions were lifted at 9:09 p.m.
Police were subsequently alerted to a loud explosion near Brănești and temporarily suspended traffic in both directions on the road between Ivancea and Brănești as a safety precaution.

Preliminary findings indicated that the drone struck trees before falling to the ground and exploding. Police initially said debris recovered at the site contained elements characteristic of a Geran-type drone equipped with a turbojet engine.
Following further examination on October 1, police said the explosion occurred on the outskirts of Ivancea after the aerial object collided with trees in a forest belt immediately beside the G72 road, approximately 10 meters from the roadway.
“Investigators found a crater at the site measuring approximately 50 centimeters in diameter and 30 centimeters deep. Within a radius of about 30 meters, trees showed damage caused by the blast wave, as well as specific signs of thermal exposure. Two additional craters, measuring approximately 50 and 30 centimeters in diameter, were discovered on the roadside about 15 meters from the main explosion site,” police said.

Numerous drone fragments were also recovered within a radius of approximately 120 meters. Among them were rear-wing components marked “Geran-4,” electronic units, and parts of a turbojet propulsion system showing signs of heat exposure.
Moldovan police said all recovered components had been sent for expert examination.
The incident follows another recent discovery of a Russian-used drone on Moldovan territory. On September 24, Moldovan authorities preliminarily identified a UAV found in the Florești district as a Gerbera-type drone, marking the first detection of the model in the country.
The General Inspectorate of Police reported the finding after specialists from its Technical and Explosives Investigation Division examined the wreckage. According to police, the aircraft contained components characteristic of the Gerbera type used by Russia and was equipped with an onboard camera.
