German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has expressed skepticism regarding the planned trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine, stating he does not hold high expectations for the summit.

Speaking in Berlin alongside British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting, Pistorius noted that previous negotiations over the past year had produced no results beyond intensified strikes against Ukraine, as reported by ntv.

He added that establishing long-term peace in Europe remains impossible without European representatives participating directly at the negotiating table.

Streeting emphasized that no decision regarding Ukraine can be reached without Ukraine's involvement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed on October 28 that the leaders of Finland and Norway conveyed Kyiv’s position to Russian leader Vladimir Putin ahead of planned trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the US in Abu Dhabi in November.

He explained that he held a conversation with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to coordinate the negotiating agenda before their call with Putin.

The two Nordic leaders contacted Zelenskyy immediately after their conversation with Putin and briefed him on the Russian position.

Earlier diplomatic negotiations over the past year failed to produce any significant breakthroughs or long-term agreements. Instead, previous attempts at peace talks ended in stalemate, with Russian forces escalating their air strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure shortly after negotiations stalled.

Previously, on October 21, it was reported that European governments were considering appointing a representative to negotiate directly with Putin amid concerns that Europe could be sidelined in peace talks.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb emerged as a potential candidate, alongside senior EU officials, while Czech President Petr Pavel urged European leaders to identify someone capable of representing the continent in negotiations with Moscow.
