Renault Group and Thales have unveiled the 4 TROOP prototype, a hybrid multi-role vehicle adapted for ground forces that acts as a mobile command center, according to a Thales press release on June 16.

The new vehicle reportedly combines Renault’s established automotive architecture with advanced embedded technologies from Thales to create a highly connected tactical platform. The release noted that the 4 TROOP prototype integrates secure hybrid communications, operational coordination systems, and artificial intelligence-boosted decision support tools directly into the vehicle’s electronic framework.

This setup enables military personnel to process large volumes of data on the move while simultaneously operating and coordinating both drones and robotics in the field.

Built as a four-wheel-drive hybrid, the 4 TROOP allows for discreet driving while maintaining significant operational autonomy, the companies stated. Thales added that the platform features a specialized power system that directly supplies electricity to external equipment during deployments. The dual-use technologies on board make the vehicle suitable for a wide variety of missions, including reconnaissance, logistical support, escorting, surveillance of sensitive areas, and the rapid deployment of unmanned systems across diverse terrains.

The integrated systems rely heavily on the Thales Combat Digital Platform, which is part of the broader tactical collaborative combat network utilized by ground forces. According to the release, this integration ensures that the vehicle meets the strict cyber and operational connectivity standards required by modern militaries while maintaining full interoperability with existing command structures.

Representatives from both companies highlighted the strategic value of this industrial collaboration. By adapting proven civilian platforms from the Renault Group range, developers can deliver rapidly deployable, cost-effective vehicles without the lengthy development cycles typically associated with custom military hardware.

Thales emphasized that this approach transforms tactical data into a tangible performance multiplier, offering armed forces an agile and resilient solution that supports both high-intensity combat operations and homeland security missions.

The development of the 4 TROOP vehicle coincided with the introduction of other autonomous platforms at the same Eurosatory exhibition. In the maritime sector, Ukrainian manufacturer Global Mark unveiled its Sea Trident heavy underwater drone at the Paris event.

Designed for autonomous operations in contested waters, the low-observable maritime platform was built to transport up to 1,000 kilograms of payload over a maximum range of 2,000 nautical miles to support strike and logistics missions.
