Russian Military Drone Recovered From Baltic Sea Near Polish Beach

Polish forces recovered a military drone of Russian origin from the Baltic Sea off the country's northern coast on September 14.
Poland's Defense Minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, announced the find in a post on X on the same day. Troops located and lifted the aircraft from the water near the beach at Rusinowo, close to Jarosławiec, he noted.

"Initial inspection indicates that it is a military unmanned aircraft originating from Russia," the minister wrote. He added that services at the scene were securing the site and the equipment that was retrieved.
Footage of the recovered drone circulated online after the announcement.
Militarnyi separetly reported that the images appeared to show a target drone resembling Russia's Gerbera type, marked with Latin lettering and missing its nose section. The outlet described the identification as a preliminary visual assessment rather than a confirmed determination.
Authorities indicated that further details on the drone's technical condition and the investigation would follow once inspections were concluded.
The Gerbera is a low-cost Russian drone deployed alongside the Iranian-designed Shahed and Geran family, often as a decoy or target aircraft. Built largely from cheap materials, it is used to saturate and confuse Ukrainian air defenses, drawing interceptors away from heavier strike drones.
If the wreckage off Rusinowo is confirmed as such a drone, it would mark another case of a Russian-made unmanned system recovered along the coast of a NATO member state.
The recovery came amid a cluster of similar incidents across the Baltic region in recent days.
On September 13, an unidentified object that crossed from Lithuania into Russia's Kaliningrad region was identified as a drone.
Around the same time, a resident near Finland's Pellinki archipelago, close to Porvoo, discovered an unmanned aircraft initially assessed as a Russian-made Geoscan 701.
Two weeks earlier, on August 31, Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea roughly 30 kilometers north of Łeba.
