Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev launched a sharp response to the European Union following a Russian drone strike into a residential building in Galați, Romania, The Moscow Times reported on May 29.
Medvedev labeled EU member states as direct participants in the war against Russia and explicitly threatened that similar incidents on European soil would continue.

In a post published on the Russian state social media platform “Max”, the former Russian president used aggressive rhetoric to dismiss European condemnation of the airspace violation, demanding that EU nations remain silent on the matter, The Moscow Times wrote.
“The Euro-impotents are screaming about some drone hitting a Romanian residential building. All EU countries need to shut up on this topic. European states are direct participants in the war with Russia,” Medvedev wrote. He added that while Europe fights by proxy, it makes no difference to Moscow.
Kremlin official threatens further strikes on European territory
The Moscow Times detailed that Medvedev further accused Western leaders of direct responsibility for cross-border attacks inside Russian-controlled territory, specifically referencing an incident in Starobilsk.
Medvedev’s reference to Starobilsk references a May 22 strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the headquarters of the Russian “Rubicon” unit—formally known as the Center for Advanced Unmanned Technologies—in the temporarily occupied city in the Luhansk region.

While Russian media claimed the operation hit civilian infrastructure, the Ukrainian General Staff clarified that the precision attack strictly targeted the specialized military facility, which is directly responsible for conducting drone strikes against Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.
He directly insulted high-ranking European officials, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Warning of future escalations, Medvedev explicitly stated that European citizens would face ongoing insecurity.
“Therefore, let them get ready: this will continue to happen. There is a war going on! And citizens of EU states, as the population of warring countries, will not be able to sleep peacefully,” Medvedev threatened, noting that this applies especially to areas near drone manufacturing facilities, according to The Moscow Times.

He concluded his statement with a warning, stating, “So shut your mouth. This is just the beginning!”
The incident that triggered Medvedev’s response occurred overnight on May 29, when a Russian Geran-2 drone—a loitering munition modeled after the Iranian Shahed—struck a residential high-rise building in Galați, Romania. Romania’s Defense Ministry reported that two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to intercept the drone, while residents in surrounding counties received air threat warnings before the impact at 1:53 a.m.
The explosion injured two civilians and led to the evacuation of 70 residents. Following the airspace breach, NATO spokesperson Allison Hart and Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu condemned the attack, with Bucharest formally requesting that NATO allies fast-track the delivery of advanced anti-drone systems to Romania.
