US President Donald Trump privately met the Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s envoy Kirill Dmitriev after the Russian official appeared with Ukrainian representatives at a White House event organized by First Lady Melania Trump, Reuters reported on November 6.

Trump declined to disclose what he discussed with Dmitriev but indicated that an agreement aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine could emerge soon.

“It’s going to be a big agreement, and it’s going to involve more than Ukraine… I could even say it might involve all of Europe,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

A US delegation is scheduled to mediate talks between Russian and Ukrainian representatives in Abu Dhabi on November 10–11.

Trump confirmed that he did not meet with the Ukrainian delegation during the November 5 White House visit, Reuters wrote.

Trump envoy Jared Kushner wrote in a post on X that US officials held “productive and substantive discussions” with Ukraine, NATO, and European partners in Brussels on security guarantees for Ukraine and a broader European security framework.

According to Kushner, negotiators are examining five areas: permanent security consultations, reliable crisis communications, greater military transparency, reciprocal measures to reduce escalation risks, and a long-term framework for European security.

“Any arrangements must fully respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independent decision-making of every nation,” Kushner wrote.

He added that each country would retain authority over its own security and alliances, while NATO would remain central to European collective defense.

Dmitriev appeared at the White House alongside Ukrainian representatives during an event marking a six-day ceasefire in temporarily Russian-occupied Oleshky that Melania Trump helped broker. The temporary agreement expired on November 1, Reuters reported.

“We have chosen humanity over war,” Melania Trump stated. “We must use the courage we brought to Oleshky to find common ground through a shared concern for the suffering of innocent people.”

Ukrainian lawmaker David Arakhamia and Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets also attended the event and urged the first lady to continue her efforts, Reuters reported.

Melania Trump handed the Russian and Ukrainian delegations letters addressed to Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Dmitriev has previously participated in contacts with US officials, including a 2025 White House meeting with Trump envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as efforts involving American detainees and the humanitarian operation in Oleshky.

Melania Trump’s involvement with Ukraine has also centered on efforts to return children affected by Russia’s invasion. On November 2, Zelenskyy awarded her Ukraine’s Order of Princess Olga, First Class, citing her humanitarian work and efforts to help rescue Ukrainian children illegally deported or forcibly displaced by Russia.
