UK Secures Ukraine Nuclear Supply With Major £210 Million Funding Deal

Ukraine is set to receive £210 million ($267 million) from the United Kingdom to guarantee stable nuclear fuel supplies for its atomic power plants over the next two years.
Ukrainian Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal confirmed the funding agreement, which was finalized during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, Poland. The initiative involves UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, UK Export Finance, and the British-based nuclear fuel company Urenco, according to Hromadske on June 25.

“These are important agreements that will allow us to continue ensuring the reliable operation of Ukraine's nuclear generation. It is the basis for the stable and predictable operation of our energy system,” Shmyhal stated.
The agreement comes as Ukraine prepares for significant economic and infrastructural backing at the two-day conference in Gdańsk.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko previously noted that Ukraine anticipates signing more than 160 agreements worth over 10 billion euros ($10.7 billion) during the event.

From this broader framework, Ukraine will secure at least 375 million euros ($402 million) specifically designated for rebuilding its heavily targeted energy infrastructure, alongside fresh contributions to the Energy Support Fund.
Previously, the British government considered selling 98,000 tons of seized Russian crude oil from a detained shadow fleet tanker to fund Ukraine’s military needs. The cargo, valued at approximately $46 million, was held aboard the vessel SMYRTOS after Royal Marines stopped it in the English Channel on June 14.
