Ukraine’s SABER Adds Remote Fire Support to Germany’s GEREON Unmanned Ground Vehicle

German defense technology company ARX Robotics and Ukrainian manufacturer ROBONEERS have successfully completed initial integration tests of the Ukrainian SABER combat module with the German GEREON unmanned ground vehicle, the companies announced on October 29.
The companies plan to integrate SABER weapon stations in M2 and MK 19 (M) configurations with GEREON platforms by the end of 2026. Initial deliveries will be carried out in accordance with the operational needs and requirements of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

"The SABER combat module is designed to adapt to the operational needs of military units, not the other way around," ROBONEERS CEO Anton Skrypnyk stated. He emphasized that integration with GEREON demonstrates the systems' interoperability and could accelerate the deployment of urgently needed capabilities to the front lines.
GEREON is a medium-sized modular unmanned ground vehicle developed by ARX Robotics. It provides mobility, power, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, while the Ukrainian SABER remotely operated weapon station supplies fire support.

The platform can be adapted for logistics, casualty evacuation, electronic warfare, reconnaissance, combat, and counter-drone missions. SABER supports various weapon systems, ranging from assault rifles to grenade launchers, allowing military units to configure the vehicle to meet specific battlefield requirements.
According to ARX Robotics, GEREON represents the largest Western-built unmanned ground vehicle fleet currently deployed in Ukraine. Its modular architecture allows the company to adapt existing platforms to changing operational requirements.
"Modern armed forces require platforms that can adapt quickly to different missions, integrate new technologies and work seamlessly with existing systems," Maximilian Wied, CFO and co-founder of ARX Robotics, stated.

The integration marks the next phase of a strategic technical partnership signed in Kyiv on October 4, 2026, during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to Ukraine. The agreement was signed in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The cooperation also builds on an earlier agreement between the two manufacturers to establish ARX Industries, a joint venture to expand production of the Ukrainian Rys Pro unmanned ground vehicle in Germany and Ukraine. The companies set an initial target of producing a four-digit number of vehicles during the venture's first year.
The partnership was signed amid a broader expansion of Ukrainian-German defense cooperation, with the two countries concluding 15 agreements during the same visit covering unmanned ground systems, drone interceptors, small missiles, radars, artillery, and air defense.
The deals also included increased production of Patriot missiles in Germany, Ukrainian orders for IRIS-T systems from Diehl Defence, and radar procurement from Hensoldt. Berlin separately announced a support package that includes funding for new interceptors designed to counter Russia's jet-powered Shahed-type drones.
