Russia continues to show no genuine interest in a peaceful settlement and must be compelled to join negotiations, Austria’s Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger said during an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Copenhagen.
According to Ukrinform, Meinl-Reisinger stressed that ongoing Russian strikes against Ukraine demonstrate Moscow’s lack of readiness for serious dialogue.
She added that the killings must end and that the international community, together with partners, should do everything possible to bring Russia to the negotiating table.
The Austrian minister underlined that any comprehensive, just, and lasting peace requires Ukraine’s full participation and must take into account the country’s security needs.

“For me it is clear: there can be no sustainable peace without Ukraine at the table, and its security requirements must be addressed,” she said.
Meinl-Reisinger also reaffirmed Austria’s readiness to host potential peace talks if requested.
The Austrian Foreign Ministry reported that the informal EU meeting, held on August 29–30 in Copenhagen, focused on supporting Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
Ministers also discussed developments in the Middle East and the future enlargement of the European Union.
Earlier, Meinl-Reisinger acknowledged that Austria’s traditional neutrality no longer guarantees security, suggesting that the country should openly debate potential NATO membership amid Russia’s growing aggression.
