BAE Systems to Repair and Potentially Produce M777 Artillery in Ukraine
BAE Systems, the international arms and military equipment manufacturer, plans to repair and eventually produce M777 towed artillery systems in Ukraine.
This was reported by Militarnyi.
Christian Sear, CEO of BAE Systems' Ukraine division, discussed the initiative at the DFNC2 International Defense Industries Forum in Kyiv, noting that a Ukrainian company will be responsible for repairing the artillery systems.
"There are several outstanding Ukrainian companies that have greatly impressed BAE Systems. As I’ve mentioned, we are collaborating with one of them to launch maintenance operations. Our strategy is to transfer M777 maintenance to Ukraine and, hopefully, eventually start producing them locally," Sear explained.
He highlighted that this partnership goes beyond repairs and maintenance, extending to the provision of spare parts and personnel training. Sear also emphasized that this long-term collaboration will contribute to the broader development of Ukrainian industry.
"We are focused on the future and actively involved in rebuilding Ukraine's industrial base, both after the victory [over Russia – ed.] and even amid ongoing combat. Our goal is to enhance the capabilities and potential of select Ukrainian companies," Sear stated.
The team is currently evaluating Ukrainian industrial facilities to serve as bases for repairs and eventual production.
At this stage, no specific timeline has been set for the start of repairs or production. For security reasons, the Ukrainian companies working with BAE Systems remain undisclosed.
