Belgium has committed €1 billion ($1.17 billion) in defense assistance for the current year. This package includes a confirmed plan to deliver additional F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. The Belgian government will also provide necessary spare parts to maintain the aircraft already in service.
Spain has also pledged €1 billion in support for Ukraine for 2026. During the talks, officials focused on expanding defense cooperation through the European SAFE mechanism.
A key part of the discussion involved the development of drone technology and the "Czech initiative" to supply the front lines with long-range artillery.
Ukraine has invited Spanish defense companies to collaborate on drone production. As part of this partnership, Ukraine offered to test Spanish-made unmanned aerial vehicles in active combat environments.

"I held talks with the Ministers of Defense of Belgium, Theo Francken, and Spain, Margarita Robles. We synchronized key areas of cooperation – strengthening air defense, developing drone capabilities, and the 'Czech initiative' to provide the front with long-range artillery," Fedorov stated.
"We are ready to offer a list of manufacturers that can establish cooperation with Spanish companies. For its part, Ukraine also offered the possibility of testing Spanish drones in combat conditions," Fedorov emphasized.
On March 18, 2026, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a new $1 billion military aid package for Ukraine during a joint appearance with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Madrid.
The commitment aimed to sustain military assistance into the following year and was accompanied by progress on joint defense production.
Both nations moved forward on cooperation involving drones, radars, and missile-related projects, while the two leaders underscored the necessity of reinforcing air defense to protect civilians during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
