Canada has announced its intention to transfer part of its banned firearms to Ukraine to aid in its fight against the Russian invasion, according to the Associated Press.

On December 5, the Canadian government announced a ban on an 324 models of firearms, which Canadian authorities say “are designed for combat rather than hunting or sport shooting".

This measure expands the 2020 ban, which initially covered 1,500 firearm models and was later extended to over 2,000.

Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc stated that these weapons "belong on the battlefield" and are no longer permitted for use in Canada.

Defense Minister Bill Blair confirmed that negotiations with Ukrainian authorities are already underway. "Every bit of assistance we can offer to Ukraine is another step toward their victory," he said.

Previously, Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair has confirmed that the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS), promised by Canada nearly two years ago, have arrived in Ukraine.
