NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte accused China, North Korea, and Iran of playing key roles in supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine, warning that these countries are coordinating their efforts and must not be underestimated, Rutte said speaking at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Dayton, Ohio, Italian outlet La Repubblica reported on May 27.

“We know that China is a key facilitator of Russia’s war against Ukraine,” Rutte stated, accusing Beijing of supplying Moscow with “dual-use goods” and helping it “bypass sanctions.”

He further highlighted the growing alignment among authoritarian regimes aiding the Kremlin’s war machine.

“We know that North Korea receives a lot of technology in exchange for its support [to Russia], and we know that Iran is involved—receiving money from Moscow and using it to sow disorder in the Middle East,” Rutte said.

“These four countries are working together. We must not be naïve,” he warned, referring to Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea.

Rutte’s comments underscore NATO’s deepening concern over the global network of support behind Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The alliance has increasingly drawn attention to Russia’s access to weapons and critical components from non-Western sources—despite sweeping Western sanctions aimed at isolating Moscow.

Earlier, reports emerged that Poland will conduct joint military exercises with NATO allies in response to the upcoming Zapad  drills planned by Russia and Belarus for September.

Tomczyk said the move is a proportional response to the scale of the Russian-Belarusian maneuvers, which are expected to involve significant troop deployments.
