Polish Air Defenses Activated Two Nights in a Row Amid Russian Attacks on Ukraine

Poland deployed fighter jets early Monday in response to renewed Russian missile strikes on Ukraine launched from strategic bombers, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.

In a statement published on X on May 26, Polish authorities warned of increased noise levels in the country’s southeast due to intensified air activity by both Polish and NATO aircraft.

The statement noted that this was the second night in a row of intense activity for Poland’s air defense system, triggered by renewed operations of Russian long-range aviation launching missile strikes on targets in Ukraine.

"This is the second consecutive night of intense activity for Poland’s entire air defense system due to renewed long-range aviation activity by the Russian Federation, which is carrying out missile strikes on targets located in Ukrainian territory," the annoncement said.

Poland confirmed that all standard air defense protocols had been activated and stressed that its forces remain on high alert.

"The Operational Command continues to monitor developments, and all assigned units are fully prepared to respond if necessary," the report concluded.

Earlier, on the night of May 24, Russia launched one of its largest and most prolonged air assaults on Kyiv, striking the capital with ballistic missiles and drones during a seven-hour attack that injured at least 15 people.

In the early hours of May 25, Ukraine faced another massive aerial onslaught, as Russian forces fired 367 drones and missiles across multiple regions, killing 13 people and injuring over 60, including several children.
