Czech President Urges NATO to Stop Tolerating Russia’s Airspace Violations

Czech President Petr Pavel has warned that repeated violations of NATO airspace by Russia should no longer be tolerated, emphasizing that a strong response is needed to deter further provocations, České noviny reported on November 11.
Speaking to high school students in Karlovy Vary, Pavel, a former head of NATO's Military Committee, explained that Russia only respects strength and views restraint as weakness.
While he clarified that not every violation would lead to shooting down an aircraft, he indicated that continued violations may eventually necessitate such a response.

Pavel highlighted Russia’s repeated airspace violations over countries like Poland, Romania, Estonia, Denmark, and Germany. He drew parallels with past incidents, recalling how Turkey shot down a Russian aircraft after multiple airspace violations, forcing Russia to back down.
Pavel asserted that Russia is testing NATO's air defenses and the alliance’s resolve, noting that a display of strength is the only way to earn Russia’s respect. He warned that showing restraint only invites further aggression.
Previously, it was reported that the Czech Army has been tracking unidentified drones flying over sensitive sites, including military installations, spokesperson for the Czech Army’s General Staff Zdeňka Sobarnia Košvancová told Echo24, adding that details of the affected locations remain classified and that the military “continuously exchanges information about threats with its alliance partners.
