Czechia plans to extend its initiative to supply Ukraine with artillery ammunition into 2025, following the commitment made earlier this year.

This was confirmed by Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský in an interview with European Pravda on November 26.

“This year, we promised to purchase and deliver half a million large-caliber shells to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, provided there is sufficient international support. We will fulfill this promise. I can guarantee that we will ensure this by the end of this year,” Lipavský stated.

He also emphasized that Ukraine will need continued ammunition supplies next year, highlighting the necessity of maintaining these shipments.

Lipavský noted that the ammunition is being sourced not only from military stockpiles in Europe but also from other parts of the world. A significant portion of the shells are refurbished before being sent to ensure their readiness for use.

For 2025, Czechia has already reserved a large quantity of ammunition to meet Ukraine's needs. However, Lipavský pointed out that for long-term supplies, countries will need to ramp up ammunition production, as current stockpiles may not be sufficient.

During the European Council summit in February 2024, Czechia introduced the initiative to supply Ukraine with artillery ammunition purchasing it from non-EU countries. Thanks to the Czech ammunition initiative, 100,000 rounds of ammunition were planned to be delivered to Ukraine during July and August.

It was previously reported that Czech arms manufacturer Czechoslovak Group (CSG) and Ukrainian company Ukrainian Armor plan to begin the production of 155mm shells and other large-caliber ammunition in Ukraine starting in 2025.
