On July 4, Ukrainian Minister for Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin announced the signing of a landmark agreement with Denmark that will enable Ukrainian defense companies to establish production facilities on Danish territory.

The agreement, signed in Copenhagen alongside Denmark’s Minister of Industry Morten Bødskov, marks a major step forward in bilateral defense cooperation.

It positions Denmark as the first country to host Ukrainian-made defense technologies for local manufacturing, scaling, and supply to Ukraine’s armed forces.

“This agreement opens a new chapter in international defense collaboration,” said Smetanin. “Denmark was the first to finance weapons production by Ukrainian companies, and now it’s the first to welcome our technologies for joint manufacturing. We are deeply grateful for this trust and leadership.”

According to Defense Express, the decision is largely driven by the need to protect Ukrainian defense production from missile threats, while also expanding access to European expertise and technical resources.

Establishing facilities in Denmark will allow for closer collaboration with EU companies and improve access to European funding programs for research and development.

Smetanin emphasized that Ukraine is committed to strengthening the defense capabilities of its partners.

“Denmark has proven to be a true ally of Ukraine’s defense industry. Together, we are building a stronger, more secure Europe.”

Earlier, it was reported that Denmark has pledged to exert “maximum pressure” on Hungary to lift its objections to Ukraine’s EU accession talks, as Copenhagen takes over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.
