A drone strike targeted a Russian gunpowder factory in the village of Kuzmino-Gat, located in the Tambov region, Andrii Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, confirmed on January 16.

“The Tambov Gunpowder Plant is one of the critical facilities for the production of materials used in the war against Ukraine,” Kovalenko said.

The plant manufactures gunpowder for firearms, artillery, and rocket systems, along with collodion cotton, a material used in explosives and specialized military products. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, production at the facility has significantly increased, underscoring its importance in supplying explosives to Russian forces.

The Kuzmino-Gat gunpowder factory, located approximately 450 kilometers (280 miles) east of the Russia-Ukraine border, is a significant component of Russia’s military-industrial complex.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that 27 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across various regions, including three in Tambov. That same night, a Russian oil depot in the Voronezh region reportedly caught fire following another drone strike.

Authorities stated there were no casualties in the Tambov region attack. However, they confirmed that drone debris damaged the roof of a residential building.

Earlier, drones targeted an oil depot in Russia’s Voronezh region on the evening of January 15, causing substantial damage.
