EU and Germany Expand Support for Ukraine’s Energy Recovery With New €18M Package

The European Union and Germany have announced an additional €18 million (approximately $19.4 million) in funding for Ukraine’s Energy Efficiency Fund, with €13 million (about $14 million) coming from the EU and €5 million (almost $5.4 million) from Germany.

The announcement was made by EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová during a briefing in Kyiv, as reported by Ukrinform. on June 11

“We are also allocating more funding for investments and technical assistance, thanks to good resource management,” Mathernová stated. “We support the Fund’s work and are coordinating with donors regarding future support.”

The ambassador emphasized that partners continue to back the Fund due to its proven effectiveness.. Since 2021, the number of supported projects has increased from 90 to over 1,500, benefiting more than 217,000 Ukrainian families. The initiative operates under the guiding principle of “Building Back Better.”

Germany will continue providing technical support to the Fund through its international development agency GIZ, confirmed Deputy Ambassador Max Rusch.

Ukraine’s First Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Aliona Shkrum, said the Cabinet of Ministers has identified an additional €5 million in potential co-financing. She also announced that the Fund’s Donor Coordination Council will soon convene to consider raising grant limits in response to the scale of destruction caused by the war.

Earlier, the European Union continued funding security-related projects in Ukraine for the 2025–2027 period, reaffirming its long-term commitment to supporting the country’s defense efforts.
