Evacuated From Pokrovsk, “Origami Deer” Heads to 61st Venice Biennale Exhibit

Ukrainian artist Zhanna Kadyrova’s sculpture “Origami Deer,” successfully evacuated from the frontline, is embarking on a six-country European tour this March before taking center stage at the Ukrainian Pavilion for the 61st Venice Biennale.
This was reported by Suspilne Culture on March 3.

The tour serves as the public program for the Ukrainian Pavilion, curated by Katya Khimey and Ivanna Kozachenko. During these stops, attendees will view the sculpture and participate in screenings and discussions of Kadyrova’s 2025 film IDP . The documentary captures the stark reality of the artwork's evacuation from Pokrovsk in 2024.
At the Biennale's Arsenale, the “Origami Deer” will anchor Ukraine's official project, titled “Security Guarantees,” as reported by Suspilne Culture. The exhibition directly confronts the consequences of unfulfilled international promises, specifically highlighting the Budapest Memorandum, under which Ukraine surrendered its nuclear arsenal in 1996 in exchange for security assurances.
In addition to the central sculpture, the pavilion will feature archival materials related to the memorandum and video documentation of the deer's journey to Venice.

While Kadyrova’s work carries the physical reality of the war to Europe, Ukraine simultaneously made its voice heard across the Atlantic. For the first time, Ukraine participated in the Guatemala Biennale of Contemporary Art.
Ukrainian artist Alevtina Kakhidze was representing the country at the 24th Bienal de Arte Paiz, one of Latin America’s most prominent art events. The exhibition run from November 6, 2025, to February 15, 2026, across Guatemala City and Antigua.
Under the Biennale’s overarching theme, “The World Tree,” Kakhidze was presenting her project, I’m Still Drawing This War. The multimedia exhibition combined diaries, drawings, and a 360-degree film to document a decade of Russian aggression through a deeply personal lens.
Earlier, the Road of Life memorial in Irpin has been selected as a finalist for the international Media Architecture Biennale 2025 Award, which was hosted in Bangkok.
