France has condemned Russia’s latest wave of strikes on Ukraine, which hit the country’s western regions overnight on August 20–21. According to preliminary reports, one person was killed and dozens were injured in Lviv and Zakarpattia regions.

The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs on August 21 stressed that these attacks were the most massive in a month. Despite its claims of readiness for negotiations, Moscow launched 574 drones and 40 missiles against Ukrainian cities and residential areas.

“Although Russia claims to be ready for negotiations, it continues its deadly attacks on Ukrainian territory,” the statement said.

Paris emphasized that these strikes highlight the Kremlin’s lack of intention to engage seriously in a peace process. “They once again demonstrate the need to stop the killings, and therefore the need to maintain and strengthen pressure on Russia,” the ministry added.

Earlier, Russia carried out one of its largest attacks in weeks, launching drones, cruise missiles, and Kinzhal hypersonic missiles overnight across Ukraine. Explosions were reported in Lviv, Mukachevo, Zaporizhzhia, and other regions.

The State Emergency Service said 15 people were injured in Mukachevo, one person was killed and two were injured in Lviv.
