German Defense Chief Supports Boosting Leopard 2 Tank Deliveries Amid Ukrainian Advances in Kursk
According to Markus Faber, the head of the Bundestag Defense Committee, the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk region is progressing better than expected, which justifies discussions about increasing the number of German Leopard 2 tanks available to the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
“The Ukrainian offensive against the Russian forces near Kursk is advancing more successfully than anticipated. This is forcing the aggressor to withdraw a significant number of troops from the front in the east, which alleviates the tension there,” Faber stated.
Furthermore, the German official believes that the progress of the Ukrainian forces in Kursk region demonstrates to the Russian population that “their dictator controls nothing” and that the military leadership is “overwhelmed” by the situation.
“This provides a solid basis for peace negotiations with Putin’s successor and for discussions with Putin before the International Criminal Court.”
On August 8, Faber stated that he does not consider the potential use of German weapons in battles on the territory of Kursk region, Russia, to be a problem.
Additionally, the head of the Bundestag Defense Committee believes that the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk region is legitimate and could persuade the Kremlin to end the war against Ukraine.
On August 6, the Governor of Kursk Region, Alexey Smirnov, declared a state of emergency in the whole region due to the ongoing situation in the area.
