The Kremlin has dismissed Ukraine’s call for a 30-day ceasefire, with Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson insisting that such a truce is impossible without resolving unspecified “nuances,” Dmitry Peskov told Russian state media agency RIA Novosti on April 29.

“These nuances are important, and President Putin spoke about them in the Kremlin,” Peskov said. “Without answers to these questions, it’s difficult to agree to such a long-term ceasefire.”

Peskov claimed Russia remains open to negotiations with Ukraine “without any conditions,” but said there has been no response from “the Kyiv regime” regarding Russia’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire during the May 9 Victory Day holiday.

On April 28, Putin announced a unilateral ceasefire from midnight on May 8 through midnight on May 10 to coincide with Russia’s observance of Victory Day.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed the move as “another attempt at manipulation” and instead called for a broader, month-long ceasefire.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry criticized Moscow’s selective approach to a truce, stating: “If Russia truly wants peace, it must cease fire immediately. Why wait until May 8th? If the fire can be ceased now and since any date for 30 days—so it is real, not just for a parade.”

Earlier, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgii Tykhyi, stated that Ukraine is prepared to support a full and lasting ceasefire, not merely a temporary pause timed for May 9 celebrations, as proposed by Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Kyiv has already agreed to a US proposal for a complete 30-day ceasefire, while Russia continues to put forward additional demands.
