Lithuania is providing Ukraine with a new batch of missiles for the RBS-70 man-portable air defense system to strengthen the country's protection against aerial attacks.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas announced the transfer during a visit to Kyiv, stating that the shipment includes 30 missiles specifically designed for this system, according to LRT on February 25.

Kaunas stated that the move is intended to secure critical infrastructure. According to the minister, "In order to ensure the protection of critical infrastructure, we are transferring 30 RBS missiles to Ukraine. For Ukraine, this is currently critically necessary weaponry that contributes to strengthening air defense."

The RBS-70 is a Swedish-made short-range system produced by Saab Bofors Dynamics. It occupies a specific niche between light portable systems like the Stinger and larger vehicle-mounted batteries.

The system is known for its laser-guidance technology, which makes it resistant to thermal flares and electronic interference. It can strike targets at a distance of up to 8 kilometers and altitudes of up to 5 kilometers.

Beyond air defense, Lithuania has focused on supporting Ukraine’s energy resilience during the winter months of 2026. Minister Kaunas reported that Lithuania has already delivered 90 generators.

Additional shipments of energy equipment are currently being prepared, including diesel generators, transformers, and electric motors to help restore power supplies across the country.

Referring to the urgency of the military aid, Kaunas added that "This is a weapon that is urgently needed by Ukraine and that will help strengthen its air defense."

Earlier, Lithuania unveiled its 2026 National Security Strategy, which placed Ukraine at the heart of European stability. The document, prepared by the Ministry of National Defence, stated that Europe could not be secure without an independent Ukraine fully integrated into the Euro-Atlantic space.
