Russia Keeps Kyiv Under Air Raid Alerts for Over 14 Hours, Launches 13 Follow-Up Strikes

Russian forces carried out repeated attacks on Kyiv and the surrounding region on August 27, forcing emergency crews to operate under the threat of follow-up strikes as air raid alerts lasted more than 14 hours in total, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported.
According to the SES, air raid sirens sounded 11 times in Kyiv and the Kyiv region throughout the day, amounting to nearly half a day under alert. Emergency crews worked from the night of August 26–27 and continued responding to the consequences of Russian strikes throughout the following day.

The agency said rescuers faced a persistent risk of additional attacks while extinguishing fires and conducting emergency operations, with 13 repeated strikes recorded during their work.
“For our rescuers, dealing with the aftermath of Russian attacks has become a test at the limits of human endurance. Firefighters work under constant mortal danger: time and again, they are forced to interrupt firefighting operations because of the threat of repeated strikes and retreat to a safe distance. But even under the constant threat of targeted attacks and 13 repeated strikes, they return to work,” the SES said.
The attacks continued into August 28, with emergency crews working throughout the night and morning to deal with their aftermath.
During the latest overnight assault, Russian forces launched 164 drones at Ukraine, including Shahed attack UAVs—roughly half of them jet-powered—as well as Gerbera drones and Parodiya decoys, according to Ukraine’s Air Force.
The drones were launched from Russia’s Oryol, Bryansk, and Millerovo areas, as well as from Russian-occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Russian-occupied Crimea.
As of 9 a.m. on August 28, Ukrainian air defenses had neutralized 137 of the 164 Russian drones across northern, southern, eastern, and central Ukraine, the statement read.
The prolonged attacks followed a large-scale Russian overnight strike on August 27 that also hit logistics infrastructure in the Kyiv region, damaging or destroying distribution facilities used by some of Ukraine’s largest retail and consumer businesses.
Among the companies affected were Fora, Budynok Ihrashok, Comfy, Epicentr, Aurora, Silpo, and Roshen, according to Forbes Ukraine and statements from company executives.
